How to Fix a “Wi-Fi Doesn’t Have a Valid IP Configuration” Error

Check your router

There are two different ways to fix a “Wi-Fi Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration” error check if your home network has a valid IP address. The first way is to see if you can access the internet from any computer connected to the network.

If you can, then it has at least one static IP address that is tied to your cable or fiber subscription. You will need to ask whoever provides your Internet service whether your location has a fixed IP address or not.

Yet another free option is to try pinging your device. To do this, start typing into your browser search bar “ping” (without the quotes). This will tell you how fast your device is responding time-wise to pings sent from other devices. Your response time is your round trip delay.

To learn more about what each of these numbers means or how to fix “Wi-Fi Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration” error, read our article explaining those terms.

Check your computer

Make sure you are running on a valid network, with a router that is connected to the internet and has an address. If you are not, then please read this article

You must also make sure that your computer is set up for wireless communication. Go into the settings menu, and look under system preferences, where there should be a choice between Wi-Fi and Ethernet.

If you are using windows, you can check by going to view properties, and making sure that the option of sharing from this device is checked.

For mac users, go to system preferences, and click on security. Here you can make sure that all devices will share the same Wi-Fi bandwidth as well as other options for system security.

Finally, it is very important that you do not have Norton antivirus software or any other antivirus or firewalls blocking port 2323 (TCP) or 63490 (UDP). Otherwise, you will not be able to connect.

Double-check your router settings

It is very possible that you have entered an incorrect setting for your network name or password, which would result in your device not being able to connect to the Xfinity Wi-Fi or any other Wi-Fi network. Check back through each setting to make sure that they are correct.

It is also possible that your device cannot connect to this network because of another device using the same wireless frequency at the time. To fix this issue, it will be necessary to temporarily move to another channel.

This option may be available under Advanced Settings > Network Name or Channel. Move all devices onto the same channel and then set up the new network with the appropriate credentials.

Reboot your router

Sometimes connectivity problems are caused by a bad configuration of the device that controls the network. When you start experiencing issues connecting to other devices, it may be because the router is unable to recognize any connected devices.

This can happen because there are too many devices trying to connect to the network or because the router itself is not able to reach an established connection rate.

The most common cause for this issue is a setting called ‘power off mode’. This mode prevents your wireless equipment from going into sleep mode which makes it easier to wake up connections but also keeps all your devices active.

Instead, they should reboot their router after detecting the error. If this doesn’t help, try accessing your router settings and checking for a reset option. A reset option will restart the router so everything operates as it was originally installed.

Reconnect your computer to your router

This should bring up your system settings again. You will need to configure your Wi-Fi adapter setting to Auto (network) instead of Manually (IP address).

It is very important that you understand what this option does, so listen carefully.

When your computer was first connected to the network, it obtained an IP address from your router automatically.

That way, every device could access the internet through your router. But there are many reasons why you might want to connect to the internet directly, without going through your router.

For instance, you may have disabled Wi-Fi or otherwise had no control over your router. Or you may be using a guest network that only gives you limited access to the internet. By choosing to work manually, you can decide what type of wireless networking you would like to use (ad hoc vs. infrastructure), and how much bandwidth you want to give other devices on the same network.

You can then write down notes about any problems you have with connectivity for future reference. It is also helpful if you want to create rules to limit web surfing to certain hours of the day for students.

Finally, this helps prepare you for upgrading to a new model of the Wi-Fi module in the next section.

If the issue persists, there are few other options

Sometimes your router will try to force an IP address onto your network even if you don’t want it. This is because most home routers require this option to function.

If none of these steps help or you are experiencing another error, then I recommend that you contact your internet service provider (Vodafone, AT&T, Verizon, etc.) and have them look at your system for you. It is possible that they can disable the forced auto-configuration feature or turn off auto-configuration all together.

This used to be done by putting in a manual entry for each device, but it is now being automated. They also may be able to tell you how to fix the problem.

It is very likely that turning off auto-configuration is the way to solve the problem. All you need to do is go into your settings and find where it is set to automatically assign an IP address. Then uncheck the box next to “automatically assign an IP address.”

Run a software network scan

It is very important to know what services are running on your local network for several reasons. First, if you are having trouble connecting to certain devices or have other connectivity issues, then it will help you pinpoint the cause.

Second, you may want to create rules to block unwanted access to specific parts of your network. For example, if you share your computer with family members and they don’t need an Internet connection, then you can prevent them from going onto untrusted networks which could jeopardize security.

Finally, knowing how many people are connected to your Wi-Fi helps us calculate how much bandwidth we should have. A lot of signals in the 2.4 GHz band use up a large amount of bandwidth that could be used by others.

In order to find out more about your router and its connections, here are some useful tools to start with.

Run a software network scan with the router connected

There are several good scans available that can be downloaded for free.

They all work in basically the same way. First, they check to make sure your device has a valid IP address. Then you enter your personal computer into the browser of your choice (Chrome or Firefox), go to the appropriate website like Wikipedia editors, and click “Scan Now.”

The scanner checks each network port used by your router. It also looks up your MAC address, which is something you’ll need to do if you want to connect other devices to your home Wi-Fi network.

All of this information is then sent back to the router via an embedded web server, and the results are displayed on the screen of your choice.

Run a hardware network scan

It is very important to verify that your system has adequate wireless connectivity using a scanning tool. Tools provide free network scanner apps for both iOS and Android.

It will take only a few minutes. When you are done, click “Start Scanning “. The software will show all available devices within your radio range.

You can also manually enter a device address to help speed up the process.

Hope, this will help you to fix “Wi-Fi Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration” error.
